The terraced fields in Yuanyang are extrordinary for their immense size and sheer drops of varying levels. These fields, totalling 24,000 hectares, begin from the shore of the Red River 100 meters above sea level, and extend on and off through numerous vales and across many peaks, up to 2,000 meters.

Hutiao ( tiger leaping ) Gorge Extending for 15 kilometres from
the Yulong Xueshan Mountain in Lijiang to the Haba Xueshan Mountain in Zhongdian. Tiger Leaping Gorge is one the longest,
deepest and narrowest gorges in the world.
According to local legend, the gorge acquired its name because at its narrowest point, a mere 30 meters wide, a tiger leaped over
its swirling waters.

On the 24th day of the sixth lunar month, when the handle of the
Big Dipper turns upward, The Torch Festival, the Yi people's New Year according to the Yi calendar begins. Torches are lit at
night to expel evil and to aid in prayers for prosperity. Many activities are held, including wrestling, bull fighting and
horse-racing.
The festival originated from a legend about a battle between an ancient Yi hero and a devilish fiend. The hero wrestled and beat
him. He taught his people to eliminate evils other forms of pestilence by enlisting the help of torches. From this time on,
Yi people have prospered. The festival is held to commemorate this hero.

During the month of August over 10,000 people will cross high passes of more than 4000 m(13123 ft) by foot, horse and jeep to make their way to Nakchu Racecourse, to run their horses, eat, drink and enjoy themselves during the annual horse festival holiday.

The Xuedun (or Shoton) Festival is one of the liveliest and most important holidays in Tibet.
We will take you to the holy Tibetan capital of Lhasa to enjoy the festival and to visit some of its important temples and monasteries. We will then take a short trip to Lake Yamdrok Tso to escape the hustle and bustle of the city to relax your mind in its serene wilderness.
